This bout would not satisfy the boxing public
Manuel Charr claims he’s in negotiations with Anthony Joshua over a potential replacement fight on June 1 in New York.
The 34-year-old WBA ‘regular’ heavyweight champion entered the fray after AJ’s initial opponent, Jarrell Miller, failed a drugs test.
Manuel Charr last challenged for a recognised world title in 2012
It was announced in the early hours of Wednesday morning that the American tested positive for GW1516 (a metabolic modulator also known as cardarine and endurobol) and therefore the fight may not go ahead, depending on the New York State Athletic Commission’s ruling.
As a result, Joshua’s team are now looking for possible alternatives.
There’s every chance they are speaking to a number of different fighters, though Charr quickly came out and made it public that he is among them.
It’s unclear whether Anthony Joshua vs Jarrell Miller will go ahead
He wrote on social media: “Internal negotiations are taking place regarding the fight in June against Anthony Joshua.
“I am very happy about this task and the challenge. I’m ready to go to fight against Joshua and bring home the victory.
“As the and reigning WBA [‘regular’] champion, I’m the most worthy opponent for Anthony Joshua. I am the suitable and official challenger.
“We will meet at eye level: World champion against ‘super’ champion. I am ready to fight against him.”

There’s no doubt a fight between Joshua and Charr would be a big disappointment for boxing fans if it came to fruition.
Charr is an ageing, 31-4 heavyweight who has not boxed since picking up the WBA ‘regular’ belt in November 2017.
His four losses have come to Vitali Klitschko, Alexander Povetkin, Johann Duhaupas and Mairis Briedis.
