‘NOT TRUE’

It had been claimed negotiations were taking place, but the ex-fighter has stated otherwise

Former two-weight world champion Paulie Malignaggi has dismissed rumours he is in negotiations for a boxing match against Conor McGregor.

The 38-year-old American famously helped the UFC star prepare for his 2017 crossover bout against Floyd Mayweather, only for footage of their sparring sessions to be publicly leaked by McGregor’s team.

Malignaggi still disputes an apparent knockdown shown in one of the clips, and the pair became bitter enemies as a result.

However, the chances of them settling this argument in the ring have been dashed as Paulie told The Express that negotiation rumours are: “Not true.”

The now retired boxer did have a theory as to where the speculation might have come from, explaining: “Of course, Conor is the king of bulls*** so I would not be surprised if this is Conor having his team put out rumours just to keep his name in the headlines.

“Yesterday, Tenshin Nasukawa shut him down by telling him he needs to make 58 kilos for a fight. Now suddenly, the next day, he is in another headline negotiating?”

“I assure you he will never fight me.”

Paulie Malignaggi has previously stated he would return to the sport for a mega money bout with Conor McGregor. however it appears the Irishman has other plans.

He is being heavily linked with a return to the MMA Octagon in 2019, with UFC boss Dana White believing a rematch with Khabib Nurmagomedov is inevitable.
